Eyes Constantly Watering

Anonymous
Is anyone else having this problem? Is this some new perimenopausal thing I'm experiencing? My eyes have been watering non-stop all week. I do work in an office three days a week and maybe it's the constant heat pumping through the office now that the weather has gotten colder, but they're watering at home too. Maybe it's dry eye? ugh I guess I'll go to my optometrist but it's just a new, and somewhat embarrassing problem.

Yes, I started getting this a few years ago. I just figured it was allergies. Literally tears rolling down my face.

OP here--what helped alleviate it? anything? or I'm stuck with watering eyes now until maybe the weather gets warmer (when I didn't seem to have this problem!)

Allergies, but it could also be dry eye, which seems counter-intuitive.

Cold weather is also a sign of dry eye. It only hits me when it's cold out. I use over the counter Refresh as needed.

Another vote for dry eye.

PP here, nothing helped me. It only happens for a few days at a time so I just make sure I have lots of tissues.

My eyes are so dry I had to stop wearing eye makeup like a year ago. I feel so ugly! Is there any type of makeup that I could wear with dry eyes?

Definitely sounds like dry eye. I get this when it gets cold. Drops for extra dry eyes at night help. Be sure to buy the preservative free ones that come in individual vials. (Preservatives in eye drops can damage your eyes if used too long.). I also use a gel that you put on your eyelids at bedtime.

A humidifier in the bedroom can also help.

Hope your problem resolves soon!

Op here- So what should I take for dry eye? Refresh? Anything else? The special nighttime ointment sounds interesting too.

I think if you go to the drugstore and look for the individual vials especially ones that say for extra dry eyes, you should be fine. There are various brands of the eyelid ointment and it will be near the eye drops. But please go to the eye doctor too, in case it is something else. A scratched cornea has similar symptoms and requires antibiotic drops, though usually, that would only be in one eye.

This so what I do, too. You could also perhaps use a small humidifier in your office through the winter. I WFH now, but used to have a “personal humidifier” that was great.

Which brand of single use, preservative free eye drops do you use?

I have been using a bottle of visine that helps, but I'd like to switch to single use.

Agree about going to the eye doctor. And the eye doctor will tell you the best OTC remedies for your particular issues.

I usually use Systane or Thera Tears, but I think there are others that work well too.
