Tight Pants, Itchy shirt, tight socks...bad morning:(

Anonymous
My daughter is very particular about what she wears. If it's not the right fashion, then the pants are too tight, etc. She even screams that her sneakers are too tight..then too loose. Otherwise she is normally a gregarious, peaceful child..but the mornings when getting dressed and out the door quickly has been challenging.. can anyone relate and do they outgrow this phase...?

Pick clothes the night before.

Does she have sensory issues?

How old is she and how long has it been going on? Sensory issues are pretty common. I learned the brands my son tolerated best and only bought those to avoid the meltdowns.

She is a kinder. I don't know anything about sensory issues.. is this something I should consult with her pediatrician?

In my sons case he was later diagnosed with adhd and medicating that helped the sensory issues. But thats not always the case. It is often a sign of something different going on in the brain though. I would start by finding the clothing she likes and removing all the rest just to make your mornings better. It doesn't sound like yoi need to go out of your way for a dr consultation, but yes mention it next time you are there. Does she have any food aversions? Is she sensitive to loud noises or chaotic environments with lots of people? Those are sometimes related and again just means the brain is working differently.

I agree that it’s probably sensory issues. All 3 of my kids (6 , 10, and 13) are the same way and even the 13 year old hasn’t outgrown it but she picks her own clothes so it isn’t an issue anymore. My 10 year old will pick out her own clothes at the store but still have these issues at home so that doesn’t always work, either.
My 6 year old thinks everything is itchy and is probably the worst at getting dressed at the moment. They have to wear a uniform to school and finding pieces that are not uncomfortable for them was a challenge. So not really any advice but I can definitely relate.
