Capitals and Wizards are moving to Potomac Yard

I guess Del Ray's home price will continue skyrocketing, and fewer and fewer people will care about the flooding...

Serious question - what does this mean for home values nearby? Because I am close by and all I can think about is just how terrible the traffic and density is going to be (and it's already bad).

Everyone's property values should increase. Wouldn't anything nearby also be subject to the new missing middle rules (ie multifamily development would be permitted for on nearby single family home lots?)

Yes this is going to change the area but you should have no issue selling if you want to get out.

Is this a done deal? I thought it was still in the "threaten and await bribes to stay" phase.

Will their games still happen in the verizon center? The caps are in Ballston right now and it doesn't make the traffic bad.

Since they can't get the taxpayers in DC to foot the bill, seems like they are trying to get the taxpayers in VA to foot it instead. Such a gigantic waste of money to give tax dollars to a profit making enterprise such as this (stadiums). They make profit, why should they get subsidized by government on top of that...and if they aren't making a profit (and I am sure they are) well then that's their own problem, let free market decide it's fate.

As a moderate, boy the dumb Republicans sure love to rail against government handouts...until it benefits them

Why would Caps practice cause traffic issues?

It has been in the works for months, it's happening.

I agree that it should boost home values.

This thread is about VA RE. Different focus.

Mark Warner and just about all of the elected officials from Alexandria were at the press conference.

No way I would buy near a stadium: traffic, rowdy crowds, and the inevitable fast food restaurants etc

It's a non binding deal. However, the proposed development in Virginia is beyond anything that could happen in the DC location. It's a 12 acre development, as currently proposed. I don't see why it won't move forward.

Great but that's a "you" thing. Density will boost property values; this is certain.
