How to cover windows to let natural light in?

I live in a house where all of the cars drive towards and then turn down the street. I'd like to keep my front windows open to let some natural sunlight in but don't want everyone looking into my house.

Any solutions to this?

Sheer curtains

I bought some curtains made of Nottingham Lace from the UK. They let in light but you can't see inside if you're outside. This works only during daytime, not at night.
