Supreme Barbecue - Chevy Chase

Anonymous
Ok, so, I’ve been craving smoked ribs, and waiting — and waiting — for the Supreme Barbecue spot to open at the Heights food hall. They are open and they are awesome. The spareribs are delicious — definitely some of the best that I’ve had in the DC area, and beyond. They have a smoky taste, and are deftly seasoned. They come with sauces on the side, but I prefer to try them straight. The chicken — also smoky tasting — is also seriously delicious. It’s so good that I can actually imagine ordering the chicken instead of the oh-so-truly awesome ribs.

Everything I tasted had a little twist of something extra. The collard greens were well-seasoned, and had a nice smoked
(yeah, trend here) flavor with a surprising complexity that I wouldn’t expect (since they were prepared without meat). Even the pickles had a twist of something extra in their spicing. In the cornbread wars, I have always been solidly on the side of Not Sweet. My first bite of their cornbread may have changed that. It’s soft, nicely crumby, and had a hint of what, to me, tastes like lemon. I will definitely try one of their other locations soon — to explore their larger and more varied menu that the Friendship Heights food court space can’t yet support.

The owners and associates were very friendly, generously patient with my many questions, and steered me to an absolutely delicious dinner. I may be going back tomorrow. Yes, my dinner really was that good.

Several weeks ago, I did a post asking for recommendations for smoked ribs in the DC area. I tried a few spots, and have a few more to go, but I can see this one easily becoming my regular spot for ribs.
