Wet/hacking, productive and disgusting cough

Our household is getting over some kind of difficult respiratory bug. We've all been sick for a week. My 4 year old and I both have wet, hacking disgusting coughs. They’re productive and nasty, the kind where people would immediately turn away from you in public. My 4 year old doesn’t always cover his mouth and will just cough right in my face.

It’s his last week of school before the holidays, the policy is that his symptoms have to have resolved before going back to school. I (obviously) can’t send him to school, right? He’s missed over a week of school now, plus missed his winter concert and his show and tell day. It’s been pretty hard on him.

Of course he stays home. It stinks, but so it goes.
