Update on TJ Supreme Court Case

Anonymous
For those who are unaware, the Coalition for TJ v. Fairfax County Public Schools Board of Directors case regarding the TJ Admissions process has reached the Supreme Court and is awaiting a ruling on certiorari, or whether or not the Supreme Court will agree to hear the case. At present, the Fourth Circuit ruling in favor of the School Board is in force and FCPS remains permitted to use the admissions process (with minor adjustments) that was adopted in October of 2020.

UPDATE: The petition for certiorari was distributed for the conference of December 8th, and the Court did not issue a ruling on the petition during that conference. The case, therefore, remains in limbo and will likely continue to be distributed for future conferences. By way of example, the Court denied a relatively high-profile petition today that had been distributed for eight previous conferences.

Because of the Winter Holidays, the Court will not schedule another conference to review cert petitions until January 5, 2024 (they are always held on Fridays and results are announced on Mondays). It may be some time before a cert decision is announced, and even if granted, it will be some time before the case is heard.

Thank you for the update.

We are absolutely a nation led by crazies now. When a magnet school can no longer admit on merit. Ugh.
