First, does any other school in MYC do this? I was shocked to find that they do. Smart, locks in students.
Question, what happens if they accept you via early decision and you decide not to attend? |
I don’t know the answer to either of these qs but we know a lot of avenues kids and have kids in private and my understanding is it is not v competitive so I would not rush to early decision if you have others that are your first choice. Avenues is fine - but put it this way, we are applying one of ours out for middle and it’s round the corner from us and it didn’t even cross my mind to apply |
Wow. That’s very interesting. I thought they were one of the top ranked schools. |
Avenues wishes it was a top ranked school. |
It really isn’t. People apply out to TT during middle or high school. Has reputation of being flashy. |
Yes but if you look on Niche, I believe they’re well ranked.
In any case, Friend was waitlisted, so they are happy! |
People still look at Niche?? I wouldn’t put too much on Niche ranking. |
Avenues is a reasonably good school based on their college matriculation. If you can't get in one of the TTs, Avenues is next in line. |
It's not top ranked and is not particularly popular. That's why they have this "early decision" option. It lures applicants away from the more sought-after schools, most of which are ISAAGNY members and must adhere to its rules about application dates and processes. |
The parent body skews wealthy and connected. Good outcomes are somewhat baked in for these kids. |
Avenues is actually successful. College outcome is on par with some selected schools like Fieldston, and better than Columbia Grammar. |
I usually don’t slam any schools, but avenues is a joke. |
a decade ago, anyone can pay is accepted. Not ultra-exclusive.
Not now. |
