| Can anyone who works in a school tell us this? We got mailed results in November for a test the children took in September -- all that time they could have been doing something to address the needs of the children who were behind but did nothing. Now they say they will compare December results to September results, but if we don't get December results until Febuary/March, they will just keep punting. When can I ask my child's teacher/admin for December results so I can do that comparison myself? Note my child had extremely low scores for reading and math and has not received any additional pull outs or anything so far this year, and admin ignored my email after I received the results, so they clearly haven't been doing anything. Normally I think great schools is crap, HOWEVER this is a high SES school that has a really low great schools rating specifically based on no increase in test results year over year, so clearly this is an issue. |
| The question should be, when do the schools get the results and when are they given the interpretation guide? I mean, an “1465” or whatever means nothing unless you have a scale for the score ranges. I assume most students in the state have to take the test before the scores can be normed. |

At my school we NEVER saw the results of the September VGA. It could potentially have been helpful if it included data on learning gaps in the prior year curriculum (which is what was tested in September).
My guess on when teachers will see results from the winter VGA - also NEVER. |
| We saw the results for September, but the state did not provide any sort of meaningful guidance/interpretation as to what the scores mean. As a result, we couldn’t actually do anything helpful with the data. And now we’re wasting December time to do it all again. |
| I teach third grade. I've never really examined or understood the scores. |

Re-upping this because my ES student is taking her math VGA this week and finished reading last week. Her tutor wants to see the detailed results and I need to figure out what to ask our asst. principal (the testing coordinator) for.
Can any teachers out there please tell me what the name is of those more detailed results? For the fall scores, I got a one-sheet in the mail but the tutor says there's a much more detailed report and she'd like to see that one. (But she couldn't remember the name of it.) Thanks! |
You ask for the detailed score by question report. |
Another question should be why are we giving the VGA 3x a year plus and SOL. When do schools have time to teach and remediate?? kids take these and then nothing becomes of it. |
This! signed an FCPS teacher |

| OMG then what is the point |
+1. That is SO true. |
It’s called the SDBQ - if you read the one sheet they sent you it actually mentions it on there. The breakdown was helpful to me as a parent and certainly for my child’s tutor! Good luck. |
Thanks so much for this info! Really appreciate it! |
