Pain in lower back, worse when have to BM?

Anonymous
Hello. I am seeing the doctor on Monday to try to figure out what is going on but while I wait, wondering if anyone has had similar issues and would like to share their experience. I have lower back pain (right above my tailbone, but straight across, not really specific to one side. It is not a sharp pain. More of a heavy pressure pain type feeling. If I lay (lie? Grammar is not my strong suit... down it doesn't hurt but sitting up or walking it, does. Again, not that pulled muscle kind of ouch, just more of a constant hurt. It gets worse when I have to have a BM but I am not constipated. No burning or fever (so no UTI symptoms). Heating pad on it def helps. It started Sunday and has been present every day since.

I had a kidney stone a couple of years ago, but had no back pain with it before dr broke it up with a laser, so not sure what it feels like when it's on the move. However, my understanding is that causes unbearable pain, and this is not unbearable.

Thoughts? I, of course, have convinced myself it is a tumor...

Honestly it just sounds like you pulled a muscle. Constipation or just regular BMs will definitely affect that and so will menstruation. It’s all connected in there.

It's probably not a tumor.

I had issues with BMs when I had sciatica from a pinched nerve. Was treated pretty easily with anti-inflammatories and PT. Flares up occasionally but meds/PT always take care of it quickly (like within days).

I remember feeling very stressed about it but it all worked out. I put off going to the doctor because my mind was catastrophizing about how bad it could be. It's good you already have an appointment scheduled! Most back problems are pretty mundane.

Thank you, both! I know it could be 100 different things but it's so hard not to jump to the worst. Appreciate the reassurance!

Agree, take some ibuprofen and miralax and see if that helps. It will take a while.

Try soaking in a very hot bath for half an hour.

could be a disc issue.
