At a loss over something ridiculous.

I truly don't know what Tiktok is doing to my kids brains. My DD (18) has not caught as much of a case of brain rot from this app as my DS (14) but still struggles to finish important tasks on time e.g college apps, and my son... well. The vocabulary from tiktok is truly making him stupid. I swear on God, if I hear him saying "I'm edging to Kai Cenat with my rose toy," I will stomp on that phone myself. Not to mention, he was nearly suspended after yelling "If Carti doesn't drop music i'll edge my gyatt out." WTF?? Does any of this mean? I mean truly. It's ridiculous. THey sound uneducated when I pay for a 45k dollar private school. I've tried to block this content from their phones but they bypass everything. I'm at a loss. Does anyone else get sick of this nonsensical slang?

None of my daughters or their friends are on Tik Tok. They all consider it toxic and are scared of "catching" an eating disorder. I think TT is awful, so I'm not going to correct them. They are happy with Snapchat.

Take your kids phones away when they need to get something done (like college apps) or any time they speak inappropriately.

Maybe it's genetic.

My 18 yr old knows when it’s appropriate to talk like a kid and when it isn’t so I don’t really care.

Every generation has slang, let it go grandma.

I heard the "bruh" thing frequently, but otherwise it's nothing too annoying or too often from my kid.

They're right to be worried. And yes, lots of mental illnesses are socially contagious, especially eating disorders.

Yeah it’s annoying but I’ll tell my kid- stop, please speak in plain English and he laughs and turns it off.

Just take their phones. Buy them a watch or flip phone without internet. It’s simple really.

My 13-year-old has TikTok blocked on their phone (not hard to do and if they messed with parental controls they know their phone would be taken away) but I do hear teenage slang when they talk with their friends. I like it when I get to hear a snippet of it. I try and figure out what the words mean. I sometimes ask later for definitions and they will tell me as long as I swear never to try using the word.

DP. I would never have believed it but about a year ago neurologists reported seeing a dramatic rise in psychogenic "Tourette's" caused by tiktok. Easily treated, though, unlike actual Tourette's Syndrome.
