Hanukkah dinner - menu help

Anonymous
Here's what I've got so far:

Apps: a couple of homemade dips, veggies, crackers

Dinner: Latkes w/ sour cream & apple sauce, kugel, roasted green beans, challah

Dessert: Fruit tart + sugar cookies

There will be 12-15 people.

I feel like I need a couple more things to round out the food. The only real restriction is vegetarian.

Any ideas?

You're missing protein.

I see DCUM is in fine form tonight.

Maybe a big salad with apples, nuts, and cranberries? Or a salat machouba? But, I think you're good either way-- you listed what I expect for a Channukah dinner.

I would suggest bacon double cheeseburgers, but I see that ship has sailed.

Seriously, OP -- where is the protein? In the dips? Tahini? Beans?

This menu doesn't even sound satisfying as an afternoon snack.

I know this is what I'm struggling with. I'm a meat eater so my inclination is to add brisket or something, but everyone else is vegetarian.

I could make a pot of lentils or something?

Can you make a lasagna? One vegetarian and one not.

Use your brisket recipe to make chickpeas.

Falafel! Hummus, Israeli salad, pita.... It's fried, it's protein.

I'm assuming no fish? Or could you do some salmon?

Bean or quinoa patties. Smitten kitchen brisket beans. Lentil meatballs.

I’d add a salad of chopped romaine, diced tomatoes, diced cucumbers, diced red onion, fresh mint and chickpeas, tossed in a lemon vinagrette.

All 15 people but you are vegetarian, wow. If a handful eat fish, I’d make Ina’s honey-soy roasted salmon.

I assume one of the dips is hummus; if not, add hummus!

Why not add a fancy cheese and cracker plate for protein. And some nice olives. And nuts. People can nosh on those and they will fill up.

You could also do a roasted vegetable dish, like carrots.

Latkes are more filling than you'd think, anyway.

OP back and I talked myself into adding some lentils.

To answer the PP, one of the dips is hummus. I was considering a cheese plate, but there's so much dairy in the kugel & the dessert I wanted to go a different route.

Thanks for the suggestions!
