MSG really bad for you?

I know the conventional wisdom says MSG is terrible for your health. Is it really though? What do you think?
Anonymous
Yes because it makes food 20x more delicious and hence you eat more.

Is sugar bad for you?
Is butter?
Is cream?

Along with hard cheeses, red wines, chocolate, nuts, miso, olives, and yogurt -- depending on the person. I'm not sure MSG should be treated any differently than these.

MSG gives me powerful energy spurts that feel really weird. It took me a while to connect it to MSG, but since figuring it out I stay away from it.

It’s based on a hoax letter to the New England journal of medicine. Consider it similar to the vaccine- autism nejm hoax. It’s composed of sodium and glutamic acid, which is an essential amino acid that we all consume in abundance in the form of proteins. So it’s nothing that our body doesn’t see regularly.

It does contain sodium, but has 1/3 the sodium as table salt, so it is actually useful as aa replacement for salt for sodium conscious people.

Stop. No it isn’t. Asian food can be made without it. Maybe dishes don’t even have it to begin with. It isn’t even an essential herb or spice, it is just an additive. It’s no different than asking for a dish to be prepared with less salt.
