Application season primal scream

Anonymous
Screaming into the void for the endless hours of time and brain bandwidth required to guide DC through applications, stay on top of deadlines and documents, manage the kabuki dance of financial and merit aid, avoid Those Parents at all holiday and school functions, and maintain a reasonably pleasant relationship with DC (stressed/cavalier/excited/disinterested, depending on day) and DH (cheerfully content to let the Majikal App Fairy take care of everything).

Add your scream here. Parents whose children signed full-ride commitment letters at age 8, who just bought a new Engineering building, or whose kid's third IPO/international aid effort/collaboration with Yo-Yo Ma will launch next week will be voted off the island.

Last year's screamer here sending some support! I feel for you and It will soon be over. Cliched as it may be, it will all work out in the end.

This will 100% be me next year! I'm dreading it already. My junior has no interest looking at colleges and no opinions on where he wants to go.

Funny, how years later, it blurs just into that year’s “thing”

But I know when you are living it, it seems to be SO dominant

1550 SAT - single sitting. One and done. 17 APs (11 classes and 6 exams). I’m so worried.

(Joke. This is a joke.)

Screaming with you.

I like it! SCREAAAAAAAM!!!

Four more essays left to go. One teacher recommendation still NOT DONE... I check every day. Too late/doesn't matter for the safety schools, probably too late for an EA reach that DD had her app completed in mid-September, but she still has an ED2 reach application in the works and it DOES matter. WTF!!!

This is BTW her AP Foreign Language teacher she has had for 3 years. DD currently has an A+ in the class. So I don't get it, like, at all

((hug))

You are not alone and in my book what you are feeling is completely normal. I silently screamed my head off 2 years ago.
Once the last submission deadline passes it be easier.

Soon you will be able to smile again. And yes, it all does work out in the end.

hire a consultant! I made that mistake only with the first kid. There is simply too much to learn and too much to do, especially if you are working outside the home

After spending much of the second semesters trying to pull DS out of his pit of despair when he realized he wouldn't be admitted to his top choice, I'm trying to drag him out AGAIN now that EA decisions are on the horizon.

Screaming right along with you.

One more month and it will be over .

At least I get one year break before the next kid

It’s so so painful.

Why don’t people really explain this to us. Almost like childbirth.

The mental toll is unfathomable if you haven’t gone through it.

I hired a consultant who worked with my kid on apps and essays, and I'm still going out of my mind with stress. I think I'll feel better when he has an acceptance. 1 ED app and 5 EA apps still pending.

I underestimated the number of essays and short responses. Holy f@“k! Everyone goes on and on about the common app essay—but then you get in the process and realize so many schools have 3-5 additional short essays, long essay, prompts, short answers, etc. and many are too different to adapt from other essays.
