UC application - Test Scores

Anonymous
DS submitted his UC application tonight. Prior to submission, the only ACT score the application allowed him to add was the "ACT English Language Arts" score, presumably for placement consideration in the event of admission and enrollment.

However, when he logged back into his account after submitting his application with payment (¡Ay, Chihuahua!), the Application Status page featured a series of links at the bottom ... including one that read "Update ACT & SAT tests". He clicked on that link, and it brought him to a previously unseen section of the application for ALL parts of the ACT score. He entered the date he took the exam, his ACT ID, the composite score, and the four subpart scores. When he PDF'd the application after saving the changes, the ACT scores are now part of the 26 or whatever pages.

Perhaps the Admissions staff will ignore this section, but maybe ...

I’ll bet that’s just some legacy functionality that hasn’t been removed from back when they would use test scores. It will almost certainly be ignored.

That's weird. My kid was never taken to some random page where any test scores could be entered.

Saw that also. Was weird since they say they are test blind. But we are out of state so maybe there is an extra page for us??

That’s…
really weird because standardized tests are neither required nor reviewed for UCs.

Test scores can be used for placing out of a-g requirements. Thus won't be relevant for most applicants, but that is why they keep the score section.

OP … there’s reference in the admissions section of the UC website to the process of submitting test scores through the link in the event of an acceptance (for placement), but the entered scores are seemingly now in the final application file before it has even been released to the individual campuses.

I agree that it’s unlikely that the scores will be used in the evaluation process, but we won’t complain if they somehow are used!

My kid is a freshman at a UC and didn't submit scores until after he was accepted, and yes, it was to place him out of certain requirements.
