Anxiously awaiting Penn State

DS applied 10/30 and was accepted 2 weeks ago. We also received a welcome package in the mail last week. A friend who applied has not heard yet.

That is really fast! Congratulations! Was there something that really stood out in their application to get an immediate response?

No idea how their review process works in terms of timing. For what it is worth, DS was high stats for PS (4.0 UW, 10 APs, 1550, CS major). MD public.

It seems that the kids hearing right now are high stat across the board. I haven’t heard of anyone receiving rejections or deferrals yet, so it seems like they’re admitting the obviously qualified candidates early.

DS heard back in two weeks as well.. Applied 10/30; heard back about 2 weeks ago. School of Information Science. GPA: 3.3/3.8, 10 APs, 1500 SAT. VA Public.

So is Penn State rolling admissions? Or do they accept EA applications but respond when they want?

Us too, OP. Nothing yet. TO, 11 APs, ~4.1-2w.

Technically Penn State and Michigan State have EA and RD deadlines and are supposed to be rolling after that. However, both seem to be in 'rolling' mode once they have enough applications in.

My son heard right before Thanksgiving. He applied at the end of Sept. Weighted GPA of 4.08, SAT of 1340 (not included), 2-sport varsity athlete, other minor ECs, 3 AP classes, mix of honors/regular for others, several part-time jobs (full time in the summer). He really wants to go to VA Tech, but he would be very happy at Penn State if Tech denies.

Is that GPA a typo?

The high SAT could counterbalance a 3.3, especially if course load is very advanced. Might be a TJ kid, which would help.
