For people that travel tons for fun and also for work, what are some awesome gifts they could actually use? I could come up with good set of noise cancelling headphones and chargers for phones. Other ideas? |
International outlet adapters
Mini laundry bag to keep dirty stuff separate Custom luggage tags If female, those blanket shawls are great Compression socks Nice toiletry bag with the TSA containers A little kit of medicines- it's such a PITA to go to a foreign pharmacy and try to find the right meds for your symptoms |
Do they have a tablet they use to watch movies or read? If they already have one of those, I'd get an Audible or Kindle subscription. They can get a lot of magazines and books, podcasts and audio books too.
Just a few ideas. My DH travels for work quite a bit and he's not taking a single thing he doesn't absolutely need. So just realize that. I do like the PP's idea of a small medical kit with individual packs of things like sudafed, advil, tums, etc could be great. Also nice ear plugs or a luxury eye mask. |
A few of those plastic folding hangars is great, along with travel size laundry sheets/soap and a plastic suction cup hook(s) and a flat sink stopper.
Altogether, this can easily fit in a quart size ziplock bag and I never travel without it. So many times I've been able to conveniently wash out a few items, hang them on the hangars AND in some instances, the plastic suction cup has been helpful when there hasn't been a shower rod to hang wash from. You could purchase these items and put them in a handy zippered bag - voila! Traveler will not be without a set of clean clothes. |
I'm getting my kid one of those neck passport bags for his study abroad. Also some little clippy do dad that keeps your phone at the level of the top of the tray table when on a plane.
also everyone is getting a plastic toiletries bag for airport security. |
Someone gave us a little portable bluetooth speaker that goes everywhere with us now. |
These are solid ideas. Problem is if its someone who travels a lot, and is particular about "their stuff" (I am like this), they probably have the things they need/want for travel. Maybe before you buy anything, ask if its something they want or don't already have. For instance, I have nice eye masks (the kind where they bubble out above your eyes so they don't touch your eyes or eyelids are awesome), and love them, but it would be a waste to get another few as a gift. Same for noise cancelling headphones- I love mine, but getting another pair as a gift would be a waste. |
i just bought a couple sets of compressible luggage cubes for the teenagers. and me. |
Everything listed here are things people who travel already have. Give consumables. Eye masks, small snacks, etc. |
I travel a lot, and ditto. I am very particular about what I bring with me, so much so that it's now a routine and I don't want a duplicate of my headphones or really of my 'gear'. I'm also not going to start using a passport holder for example. I don't care about luggage tags. So those gifts would be a waste. The suggestions from other PP's are great if someone is just starting to travel and they haven't figured out HOW they travel yet... pashmina vs light jacket, small pouches for stuff vs everything in a laptop sleeve. For someone who is already a frequent traveler, I'd find out what they use for toiletries and beauty routines at home and on the road, and give them mini travel-sized versions of them - kiehl's or sunday riley or etc. |
I travel frequently and just bought one of these sets b/c I feel like we never have just the right adapters for headphones and our various devices.

For people who fly longer haul, a real blanket and pillow that scrunch down into small packages. The ones the airlines use are miserable |
We asked for a nightlight from our European relatives. We always travel with one but then we end up using a converter just for it. I like the speaker idea. We always remember on domestic travel to take an echo dot but on international we forget a speaker.
If you know where they are going and have kids make up a scavenger hunt for them. |
You realize airline employees make fun of adults who wear those, right? And rightly so. |
Agree. I travel weekly and already love my Bose. But I'd be thrilled to get L'Occitane minis. |
