Hello all,
I feel like I'm spending way too much money on groceries. We live in Rockville and the Giant/Safeway are all quite expensive, I find! Giant more so than safeway. Can someone recommend the cheapest good quality grocery store they shop at in rockville? We are pescetarian, FWIW, and eat mostly vegetarian. I'm tired of spending $12 per lb of salmon at Giant. Any tips would be appreciated! |

Have you tried Trader Joe's? They don't have everything but a lot of what they do have is much cheaper.

I so agree with you! I suspect all the asian stores in rockville (around white flint) may be good. Maybe someone can tell you about those.
I don't like Trader Joe's as i like to do one shoping trip a week (well at least in theory) and it doesn't have everything i need but it does have some good interesting choices. FWIW I shop at Snider's in Silver spring - just inside the beltway at GA avenue. Its a family owned store - small and neighborly service. It sounds like it wouldnt be a good fit for you - it has a great deli and good meat selection vs lots of fish. |

| Magruders- especially for the fruits and veggies |

| Target at the Rio. |

i like trader joe's but agree that it doesn't have everything. can you get everything at target (rio)?
why is giant/safeway so expensive??? |
| i don't know what part of rockville you're in, but the korean korner on randolph & viers mill rd has the most interesting selection of produce at really cheap prices. lots of fresh herbs and vegetables and fruit you've never heard of alongside the usual produce. also a wide variety of fresh seafood and other asian and latino items. meat seems pretty decently priced too but i don't have as good of a gauge on price difference for that. |
| I love shopping at asian grocery stores but I would never buy meat or fish there. It always smells a bit off and looks funky. I wish I could trust it but I'm really queasy about these things. |
| We were pleasantly surprised to find fresh, quality fish at Korean Korner. They also have beer, and wonderful produce at very good prices! We were very surprised! Don't let the crowds put you off. It's not the most spacious, shiny place but we will definitely go back! |
