We’re on the hunt for a new spring break destination and I haven’t found anything that sounds amazing. Looking for a place to take 4yo to get away from PNW rain - we did Hawaii last year and will go there again if I don’t find something else but flights are currently expensive ($1500pp!) for the annoying dates that work best for our work/ school spring break. Considering anything we can get to from Palm Springs, Santa Barbara, any of the Los Angeles airports, San Diego, etc but I haven’t made the decision because I’d prefer something warm enough for swimming and San Diego seems like it may be cold. I nearly just booked the Santa Barbara Ritz but am a little spooked by reviews for the price. Is there any hotel folks have been to that you’d recommend or another destination I’m overlooking? Cabo is in play but I figure at that point we may as well go back to Hawaii
San diego for the zoo and beaches
Thanks! Do you have a rec for a specific hotel in San Diego?
Where do you like to stay in Hawaii, OP?
Check out the high end hotels in Scottsdale and Sedona.
OP here - our Hawaii destination would be s condo or Airbnb with beach and pool access either North Shore Kauai or Kona. Our kid is super happy in the sand, vocally wants warmth (sweet summer child!) and won’t enjoy a cold pool - it’s not like we’ll be with a bunch of older kids to entice us in. Kauai is more for myself and DH who like the laid back vibe and to hike. If we go somewhere else though I’m leaning toward hotel for pool options and maybe other kids or a kids club at a hotel. We sadly can’t make a trip work with cousins or good friends because of conflicting spring breaks, a work conference etc
We have never been to San Diego as a family and the flight is easy so maybe we’ll do that! Still also open to Santa Barbara if anyone has been with kids recently! And thanks so much re Sedona - we’re going there for New Years! DH loves Santa Fe so put in a vote for that but it would be chilly though sunny…
San Diego is nice.
La Jolla shores hotel is right on the beach but there are others. No guarantee of warm weather: usually ok but we went 2 years ago for spring break and it was unseasonably cold (like colder than dc that week). We still had fun. Maybe check to see if the pool is heated.
Also on the West Coast- we are doing Hawaii for February break and Arizona for spring break. If you want reliable beach weather I would chose Hawaii or Mexico.

Palm Springs is fun, lots of different hotels and resorts.
Do day trips to Joshua Tree National Park, do an off-road tour, take the skytram to the top of the mountain, visit Pioneertown, etc |
