The liberals are focused on allowing in everyone, with the implicit message being that everyone should get a chance. I hear the word "fair" tossed around a lot. And that might work IF we had a system where no immigrant ever gets welfare or taxpayer support at the expense (obviously) of American taxpayers.

But we don't have that. Just over half (half!) of immigrant families are on some form of welfare, and that rises to more than 70% if there are children in the family. Sure, it's best for the immigrants if we support them. But the focus needs to be in what is best, or at least not harmful, to America.

Thus, we need to go to a merit-based system in which individuals are judged on their likelihood to contribute to society, and advance America, rather than be a cost to it. Other countries do it, and we need to. We simply cannot throw open the doors to anyone who wants to immigrate here UNLESS liberals are willing to say that they will never get taxpayer-funded government assistance.

Why was Trump's poor immigrant mother any more worthy than a Nigerian today?

Things were different then. The poor didn't come here and get all sorts of taxpayer support.

Trump didn't say we want educated people from those sh1tholes. He said "why do we let in *people* from these sh1tholes.. why don't we let in more people from Norway". That's not exactly merit based, either, but sure does sound racist.

Why do people want the more educated immigrants who will be competing for the high paying jobs with our American college graduates. That makes no sense, either. Do you want the US to end up with real Americans as the underclass and the educated class be made up of immigrants?

Merit immigration based on what industry needs more workers makes the most sense. And according to the farmers, we have a huge hole in the farm worker industry, and according to Trump, in the low skilled service industry, which is why he uses H2B visa workers, and even increased it by another 15K in his first few months in office. Trumpsters keep saying we don't need high skilled workers in areas like high tech.

So, based on what the R business owners like the farmers and Trump and Trumpsters are saying, we actually need more cheap labor than we do high skilled labor.

given that more people in Norway live on social welfare than people in Nigeria, if they were to come here, they'd want their social welfare. They'd want to make this country into a socialist haven like they have back home, where their quality of life is better than the average American's. I'm confused - why can the "illegal" immigrants get ACA but the "native borns" can only clamor crumbs? If the ACA has no restrictions on it, why aren't the "native borns" also getting the subsidy?
