Nanny share and vacation how does it work

First time parents and starting a nanny share next month.

How do families manage vacation with a shared nanny? I would like to hear from other nanny share families.

Do you mean the nanny wants to take vacation? Or one of the families takes vacation? I hope you have outlined all you PTO leave policies in the contract.

You pay the nanny whenever YOU go on vacation. She should get at least two weeks of vacation that you also pay her for.

This. We tried to coordinate our vacations so that nanny basically got an extra week off paid but it didn’t always work out this way.

Nanny gets two weeks PTO for herself to use as needed plus 5 sick days.

When one nanny share family is out on vacation, nanny still works with the other family but both families still pay guaranteed hours as usual.

If both families can align their vacations, then nanny gets paid time off under guaranteed hours.

Most people have 1 week that everyone takes off (e.g. Christmas) and then also a week or two of her choosing while being paid. Anything outside of that schedule is still paid. Same as daycare.

When our nanny took her PTO or a sick day, we'd coordinate with the other family to take turns watching the kids.

For the PTO week, each parent would take a day with the kids, covering 4 week days. Both families had local grandparents who helped out with Friday. It worked for us.

We also agreed with the nanny in advance that one week of PTO would always fall between Xmas and New Years.

Crappy arrangement for the nanny. Most families give a Christmas bonus with extra days off around the holidays and don't have that count against the nanny's PTO.

We did one week nanny’s choosing (she also had sick days), one week families’ choosing on a coordinated week, and we paid when we took extra PTO.

They all ask paid vacations, sick days, gas for car
