Hyundai Palisade or Toyota Grand Highlander

Both equally rated by experts. Hyundai is roomier, nicer design. Toyota Grand Highlander has a slightly better price tag plus the brand.

The new Toyota Grand Highlander has more interior cargo space than the Palisade. So not roomier. Though I agree the Palisade looks better except the front grille is a little overkill.

A few other factors to consider:

1. Hyundai has much better warranty.

2. But the Palisade also has a known issue with high-pitched "whistling" noises at highway speed. Doesn't affect every vehicle, but it drives some owners batty.

3. Grand Highlander offers multiple engine choices (base, hybrid, hybrid max). The hybrid and hybrid max will both get much better fuel economy than the Palisade, and the hybrid max will also be more fun to drive.

After probably a year of research of looking at mid-size SUVs with a decent/true third row, we bought the Grand Highlander and so far I really like it. For us, it came down to the Telluride and Grand Highlander, and really, I like both, but at a certain point, we just needed to make a decision. It seems to fit our family of five, including a very tall husband and three tall kids well, and it is definitely an upgrade from my 17-year-old car. I do wish that the warranty were better, but I did not want that to be an overriding factor since there was so much else that we liked and hopefully, Toyota reliability is present with this car and can give us at least some peace of mind.

How long do you think you'll keep the vehicle?

If you are a buy and hold type and will drive it for years and years after it's payed off, get the Toyota, hands down.

But, if you are someone who cycles through car ownership in no more than 5-6 years, then either would be fine, pick the one that really appeals to you.

We have tested both. The second and third rows of the Palisades are much roomier.

Hi PP, I heard the opposite due to Toyota’s resell value.

Hyundai palisades have an oil consumption issue. Just google “Hyundai palisade oil problem”. A class action lawsuit is in progress. Toyota has better engine build quality.

Only true if all the websites posting the specs for third row are all wrong. But if you feel its "much roomier" that's great for you.

Total cargo space behind the first row is 97.5 cubic feet in the TGH, and 86.4 cubic feet in the Palisade. 2.5 of that 11.1 cubic feet difference is behind the third row - so the second and third rows of the TGH have 8.6 cubic feet more space. Those are (clearly) the actual specs, not an anecdotal impression/feel.

I'm in the market for a family with 4 kids, and I think the Grand Highlander Hybrid is what I'm going with.
