| I'm used to cooking for a big family but during that last hour or so I get awfully stressed putting the 'cook last' items on the stove - think canned corn, mashed potatoes, gravy, etc. This year I bought one of those triple slow-cookers but I'm not sure what time to put those items in to cook. If dinner is at 4, should I put them in at noon? 1? |
| No one needs or wants CANNED CORN on a day that’s already full of more worthy carbs. Skip it. |
| You can microwave canned corn 1 minute before you are going to serve. |

At Thanksgiving I only use my crockpots for the function of keeping my already cooked stuff warm. So I cook the food on the stove the regular way, then dump in crockpot. Plug crockpot in somewhere else that is not in the kitchen so I can get that mess over and done with and get on to the next thing. Keep crockpot on low or warm.
You could get the corn, mashed potatoes and gravy done and over with 2-3 hours before eating time and put it all in your crockpots. Just check and stir occasionally. |
This is funny. For years, I hosted a Friendsgiving and I always made frozen corn microwaved with butter, S&P and a touch of chicken broth. My one friend always chokes, because every year, someone (and it changes who each year) mentioned that the corn was SOOOO good and their favorite. And corn was almost always the one dish to disappear. And, no, it's not because I'm a bad cook or that other dishes weren't good. Just that almost everyone loves hot buttered corn. Tip, frozen corn is much better than canned corn. |
