Dallas - thoughts?

Anonymous
Was in Dallas for 10 days - my first time and I was pleasantly impressed.

Spent time around deep Ellum/old East Dallas, downtown, around SMU, victory park, and even went out to Fort Worth and quality of life seems very high, it was pretty clean, I didn’t see homeless (I rode public transport as much as possible and walked when I could — which locals thought I was weird since no one seems to walk and only service people seem to use DART rail).

What am I missing?

I’m normally a northeast homer (even get on DC being “too southern”) but Dallas seems to genuinely be pretty nice major city.

It gave me the opposite reaction of Denver and Nashville- which has been a hot cities for 20 years but when I went to those cities also for 2 weeks I was thoroughly disappointed.

It’s fine until you need an abortion or want o wear a sports bra while running.

It’s getting expensive. And you’ll need to pay for private schools.

Don’t be fooled: it’s still very conservative despite the influx of Californians, midwesterners, etc. They are heading south for conservative vibes…including the influx of Asians and Muslims. They want Red politics.

I didn’t want to say anything but I’m a millennial and my Dallas trip gave me a lot of 90s vibes

I grew up in Dallas and went to SMU and have been trying to get back for 25 years (husband is a complete tool on this issue). Kids are in high school and I will be moving back (with or without him) once they are in college.

I have lived all over and visited all over and it is hands down my top US city.

What’s your husband’s hang up?

Before I visited I would’ve also turned up my nose immediately but my attitude was shifted.

The Dallas vibe is just too try hard and superficial for me.

I like Houston much better.

OP, this really isn’t the best day to be singing the praises of Dallas.

I don’t think Dallas had anything to do with that

It was an israeli handled op

Not native Dallasites

I grew up in West Texas and have lived in Houston, Austin, El Paso, Dallas, and have spent a lot of time in San Antonio. Dallas is the only place I'd consider moving back to.
