What to do with the persimmons from my fruit tree

Anonymous
A year ago, we moved into a new house that has a persimmon tree. Well, this is our a first time seeing how much fruit it produces and it's a lot.

We'll eat some, make recipes with some, and gift some to friends but we'll still have 100s left over.

It seems wasteful to just throw the rest out but I don't know what to do. I'd like to donate to an organization but can't find any that take perishables.

Any suggestions?

Do you have a neighborhood email group? Colleagues you like even a little bit?

If you lived in my neighborhood, I'd snap them up. I'm just finishing up the last of a few dozen I got from a friend.

Post free pick up on Facebook Marketplace, Nextdoor or Craigslist.

My wife took a huge bag to her job (I'm not in the office this week). I think I could email through the HOA... Would be a nice way to potentially meet some of the neighbors. Thanks for the idea!

I might do this. I saw people on FB selling persimmons and I don't want to gift them to someone that will flip for profit.

A person in an adjacent neighborhood to mine says her persimmon tree was picked clean one night. Who knew persimmon thieves exist!

If you asked them to do it then they'll charge you.

Yes! That happened in our neighborhood too! Our neighbor saw the woman getting in her car and peeling off. The tree was not near the street. They had to walk all the way up the driveway, bonkers.

Anyone have any persimmon recipes? I have no idea what to do with the ones we were given by a family member.

Cut it half to see what kind of winter you are going to have!

This happened to my parents. The tree was in their backyard! My mom was so mad because she was planning to pick them herself the next morning, but when she woke up, they were all gone. They actually cost quite a bit in the store.
