Bowie MS - Samuel Ogle vs Benjamin Tasker

Anonymous
Would love to hear parent feedback on Samuel Ogle and Benjamin Tasker within the last 1-3 years. Appreciate any insight from anyone with kids there.

Are you moving to Bowie? Otherwise you don't have a choice, you're zoned where you're zoned.

My now 10th grader was at Ogle. She had some wonderful, wonderful teachers. But the school as a whole wasn't great for her. There are some kids cursing out the teachers and cutting class. She said it was chaotic.

On the other hand, my neighbor's kid liked it fine. I think my kid just has a lot of trouble focusing and ignoring BS, but neighbor kid is more academic and focused.

They're both bad. Move to Crofton.

May want to really research this suggestion. I haven’t heard the best things about Crofton either especially when it comes to diversity. Perhaps it depends on your ethnicity.

Crofton MS is 57% white, 20% black, 9% hispanic, 7% asian and 6% mixed race (i'm leaving off decimals)

who exactly was telling you they have a diversity problem?

People of color in the schools. Diversity doesn’t automatically equate to fair equal treatment, lack of preferential treatment, or equal opportunities to all students.

It's actually only 50% white now. The demographics you're showing are from the year it opened. 100% agree with you though. Crofton's Black population is proportionate to the Black population in AACPS as a whole, and its Asian students actually make up a larger percentage of students at CrHS than they do in AACPS as a whole. The only ethnic group that's underrepresented at Crofton is Hispanic students.

Well duh. But PP said there was a diversity problem. There isn't. If there's a racist staff problem, that's different. You can't say the school isn't diverse. Maybe they need a more diverse staff.

You missed the point - Crofton was thrown out as a solution (and it may be). They’re potentially swapping one set of issues for another. OP will need to decide what’s most problematic and make an informed decision.
