player cards

DS wants to move clubs. The team fell apart after he agreed to stay on last spring. More than half the team left and so did the coach. It doesn’t appear the club is willing to let him go. At this point the money isn’t an issue but I have the impression they won’t release his player card. If the current team is EDP and he is moving to ECNL-R, does he need his card? Any suggestions for how to navigate?

Unless you owe the club money they have to release the card. If you owe them money, pay up and then they'll release the card.

If the club wont release the card and you dont owe them money, contact MSYSA and explain what's going on (you can go to their website and search player rights and obligations to see more information)

How is he even on a team? How can the club keep him when there is no team?

Agree with the above. If you don't owe money, they will release your player card (although they may be painful about it). Also, EDP uses USYS carding while ECNL-NL/RL use US Club Soccer carding. You can be carded in both systems so worst case, you shouldn't need the USYS card released in order to be registered with US Club Soccer.

If you're currently playing for a club in Virginia, VYSA is who you want to talk to. If you don't owe money and the club still refuses to release the card, CC the VYSA registrar on your correspondence with the club. That will get it taken care of.

Give us a hint so we can guess the team/club. Sounds very familiar to a MD team that decomposed at the end of the spring season.
But no card needed if going to ECNLR

There is a team but it’s not remotely the same team. They ended up bringing on new players but it appears they weren’t selective. It’s a smaller club so there’s not a depth of talent.

Don't worry about it, the team manager will tell you what you need to do.

So the team fell apart and the club won't release any of the player cards? It seems like someone needs to be fired.

No. As I stated above there is a team. It’s just not remotely the same team as last year. The new kids aren’t the same level as those who left. A and B team collapsed into just 1 team. The team is playing in much lower divisions for league and tournaments than in the past. I understand why the club doesn’t want to release him. We did sign a contract. But this is such a mismatch that he is really unhappy and not developing.
