Holiday teacher gifts

First year in MCPS.

What’s typical for teacher gifts? At previous school room parent coordinated a gift card from all families. Guessing not the case for MCPS. What’s the typical range of gifts? Gift card or something tangible?

I give $20 gift cards because there is a $20 limit for teachers.

Very typical for room parent to coordinate a gift. I’m assuming this is elementary?

My school does not have a room mom. I give 20 dollar gift card and a note/picture from my child. If I have my act together I will attach it to a box of chocolate or some kind of goody. I usually give 5-10 dollar gift card to the specialists my child really likes. I also give 20 to the bus driver.

Yes, $20 gift card for classroom teacher, $5-10 for bus driver, other key staff including administrators.

MCPS room parent here: there is a $20 limit for an individual gift from a family to a teacher. But, there is no limit for a group class gift to a teacher. At our elementary, the PTA gives each classroom another staff member (eg a custodian, a specials teacher, a front office person) in addition to the teacher to provide a group gift.

No room mom at our kid's school.

I give a $25 gift card with a thank you note highlighting something that my kid has mentioned that she enjoyed.

My 4th grader has 3 teachers this year- ELC, homeroom, compacted. How do you normally handle that? Equal gifts for all 3? Am I allowed to give different amounts or is that frowned upon? DS is not a fan of one of them!

You can do it however you want, I highly doubt they compare. I give the same amount to all the teachers and write a nice note to the principal about any that have been especially great.

We give $50 to the main teacher, $25 to the specials teachers.

My kid's homeroom teacher left, and my kid will have a new homeroom teacher early December. I wonder how much I should contribute/gift to her since I won't even get to know or see her by christmas.

A great gift for teachers would be a gift card for door dash or something similar. It's a nice treat to get lunch delivered every now and then, especially on hectic days.

Just give what you think is right or just wait until the end of the year when you have gotten to know them better.

Here here! Thank goodness for Doordash, I remember being desperate enough one time to eat cafeteria lunch. NEVER AGAIN.

Don't give any gift. Most kids will not be gifting anything.
