Going to Brasserie Liberte - tip on top of 20% service charge?

I’m confused. 20% service charge. How much do you tip on top of that? If it’s another 20%, we’ll need to cancel. I’m all in favor of an international norm with the service charge and then add 5-10% more for excellent service. Would that be appropriate?

Yes, because they shouldn’t be asking in the first place, when you’ve already been charged for it.

Their website says up front that tips are not expected.

Unfortunately i spoke with a server last nite. Who said that they only get 4% of the 20% from the restaurant. She was very sad that the restaurant advertises that tips are optional. Because she has been basically stiffed ever since they started this. So we left 16% on top of the already egregious 20%
I will not be going back.
I encourage patrons to ask their server.

Tips are always optional. The restaurant should up their pricing, and be transparent about what they are charging people for, instead of these silly games of junk fees.
