Infertility Support and Discussion
|
I'm just looking for feedback from those of you that have worked with Columbia Fertility. I've been working with them for a few months after two miscarriages and have been a bit dissapointed in their lack of testing to figure out what is wrong. I'm feeling they are pushing me to injections without knowing exactly why. It almost feels like a generic treatment.
Just looking for thoughts |

Who is your doctor there?
I am a patient of Dr. Sacks. When I arrived there, we already had a diagnosis, so I did not do any testing with him. However, I have found him to be very responsive when I push for things that I want. So if you feel like you have not had enough testing, be firm and say that you are not ready to start treatment until you have a full clear picture. |
| OP here, I see Dr. Rifka. After my 1st MC he did blood work and concluded a hormone imbalance...put me on injections. He pushes for the injections but can't fully explain why. I do like him, but am feeling a little like he's not paying close attention to my specific situation. Also he told me he didn't believe in testing for clotting disorders, which seemed odd to me. |
| You may want to consider a second opinion, I had 3 m/c's total and I wasn't happy with my RE's explanation so I consulted a perinatologist. |
| I came to CFA after just one miscarriage .. i have one child conceived naturally (accidentally actually) and suffered a missed miscarriage when that child was about 8 mos. old. We tried for about 6 mos. after my D&C with no luck and then, given my age, turned to CFA. Before we started any treatment my Dr. (Abassi) recommended blood testing (which apparently including checking for clotting disorders)and an HSG. When my bloodwork came back w/some issues she then sent me to a hematologist to get the okay before starting any treatment ... I felt she was very thorough and never felt she was rushing (even despite my age) me into anything.. |
I'm really sorry to hear this, OP. I saw Dr. Sacks and had a *very* early miscarriage the first month I saw him. Even though it was so early (not even 5 weeks), he didn't blow me off and assured me that he would do whatever he could to make sure this didn't happen again. I conceived again the next month and began actively bleeding again ... my progesterone was SO low, most doctors would have said "sorry about your 2nd miscarriage" but he prescribed a whopping dose of progesterone and I have him to thank for saving my 18 month old son's life. Perhaps you should request an opinion from him?

| Can you ask to see another Dr. in the same firm?? Will they even let you do that? It would be nice though. |
| I had a great experience with Dr. Rifka (injections-twins-first cycle) and would generally recommend him, BUT in your situation I think you are right to want more testing. I would seek a second opinion and I think pp was right to see if you could get in to ask a perinatologist. Dr. Khoury's practice is awesome for perinatology. |
| Thank you all for your feedback, it has been very helpful. I will consult with a a perintologist possibly. I think I'm going to express my concerns to Rifka again...I have liked working with him and maybe I'm just becoming antsy because I'm so ready to have a successful pregnancy. |
| I would switch to Abbasi or Sacks if you want to stay with CFA. Rikfa is old school and doesn't keep up with the latest research or techniques. Best would be to get a second opinion all together. |
