DC proper: Best Indian restaurants for curries

Anonymous
We are fans of North Indian-style curries but after living here for years, we have yet to find a place that really wows us. We've tried Rasika but were not impressed. Any suggestions you have are much appreciated

Sorry all the good Indian food is in the suburbs. The Indian food in DC proper targets an American clientele and just is very muted/bland in terms of flavors. Not to mention more expensive. Try places in Herndon or Gaithersburg.

Also the real deal is always at temples. Although that is vegetarian.

I was just coming here to recommend this and am glad to hear an Indian poster also likes it.

I'm also very picky about Indian food andy go to is Salt and Pepper Grill. It's a carry out, I've never seen anyone actually eat there, it's affordable, but I think it's really, really delicious. I like Rasika but I actually like Salt and Pepper grill better. It's the only Indian food my Indian Dad would tolerate in DC.

I like Diya Bistro in Ashburn and Haandi in Falls Church.

Salt and Pepper tastes like every sauce has the same tomato base. The flavor is good, but it all tastes the same

Don’t go to Handi if you are Indian. It’s Indian food for Americans.

That’s because it is the same.
