Gifts for baby shower/birth

I’ve been invited to a baby shower for the first time and not sure what the gift giving etiquette is- do I give one big gift at the shower, and not after the baby is born? Or do I give two gifts, one at the shower and one after birth?

Neither the rest of my friends nor I had baby showers and we all just gave gifts to each other after the baby was born. What’s typical? Thanks!

One at the shower and nothing when baby is born unless you are sister or BFF to the parent.

My shower was fairly small, family and close friends so most gave me a gift after the birth as well as gift at the shower. But a lot of people who did not attend the shower gave a gift after the birth. What I noticed was that shower gifts tended to be more equipment, practical things for the baby while post-birth gifts were 90% clothes.

The only thing i would give after the baby is born would be mom-driven. Make sure she feels seen and you are thinking about her care.
