It just came to light that my 4th grader’s class is having a Friendsgiving TOMORROW!! He’s supposed to bring a food that’s meaningful to our family. We’re Vietnamese, but this is so dang last minute. I have no time to prepare anything.
My child says he wants to bring pho but that’s not happening. I need ideas! |
| You can bring something simple that you all like- like if you all love oreos although it has nothing to due with your heritage. Do you all have a favorite tgiving food? Or favorite treat? |
| Can you go the store tonight and get instant pho? The kind you put hot water on? |
OP here. This is what I need to do. I guess I just needed to hear someone else say it. Thank you! |
Guess what? You guys LOVE pretzels! Or Goldfish! Or marshmallows! |
| My kids have a strange obsession with dum dum lollipops that’s become a family joke - so that’d be ours. Don’t feel the need to make it culturally significant beyond your little family’s family culture |
| Frozen dumplings? I am Indian so for my child I would do frozen samosas |
| Seriously mom, you all LOVE whatever is in your cupboard right now. That is why it is there. This is a good cultural lesson. Vietnamese people also eat whatever packaged ready-to-eat food you can shove in his backpack because MOMS HAVE NO TIME FOR THESE EXTRA ASSIGNMENTS. |
| My daughter loved her Vietnamese friends' rice balls. Or some kind of snack food or candy? |
Pho I'd much prefer pho for thanksgiving than a turkey and sides (we have some kind of Asian food every year for Thanksgiving).
Seriously, how about some spring rolls? |
| OP here. Thanks everyone! I sent him with a pack of cookies from our pantry. He was just happy to be bringing something to share. |
