Mice in Alexandria City

Anonymous
We moved from Fairfax County to Alexandria City about a year ago. In the county we had to have pest control out for mice once in ten years when construction was going in. In Alexandria, I have a regular service contract and despite sealing etc we occasionally (maybe once a month) see a mouse. I am wondering if this is normal for this area and what others have experienced.

Rats are horrible here in the city. There is a major rat problem that's not being treated.

Unless your house is really tight you'll have mice at some point. Few older houses are tight.

Put out snap traps and be scrupulous in how you store and clean up food.

I lived in Old Town (on Prince St, house built in 1800's) for 10 years with no mice. I would see them in the parking lot behind the old Hank's.

We are in the midst of a major battle with mice. I started seeing evidence of mice a few weeks ago and have gotten obsessive about keeping food sources sealed off and out of reach. We’ve only caught one inside our house, but we’ve caught several in our yard. Obviously, they’re moving in and out quite freely. I haven’t seen evidence inside for about 2 weeks, so I think we’ve done a good job of shutting off their indoor food supply.

Mice in your yard are perfectly normal.

Get a snake. We had rats in our yard in Old Town until a black snake took up residence & took care of the problem.
