To those MLSNext parents- do they post the college coaches that will be in attendance somewhere?
This is all I found on the MLS Next website: Moving to a new location in 2023, MLS NEXT Fest is the largest event in the 2023-24 season, as over 300 teams from the United States and Canada will compete in the MLS NEXT Fest Showcase across four different age groups. The six-day event is one of the most attended by college, national team, and professional scouts/coaches during the entire MLS NEXT season as more than 800 matches will be played in a single location. My son was formerly ECNL and they would always have a 'coaches that will be in attendance list'. Thanks! |
| Last year the list came out the night before the event. We have been three times and my recommendation is to reach out to any and all colleges and ask them if they are attending. Send your schedule for the event and follow up a couple of nights before. You will see upwards of 150-160 college coaches. Also, some will not be registered that show up out of the blue. Good luck |
Thanks so much! |
| The issue is that the top D1 coaches aren’t going in person any more. So the organizers leave the list to the last minute. |
| Does MLSNext post schedule for the event? |
Do you think it is still worth it? I don't like the idea of my kid missing so much school that week. |
It's already posted. |
| Well, speaking from personal experience the top D-1 coaches are present. They will only attend the games that they have a radar on someone. The assistant coaches will also be present and they are usually looking at the U-16/17's. My son had a chat with a couple of D-1 Coaches not only after the games but at the hotel. Yes you will have more interaction with assistant coaches. |
I think you might be in the wrong league if you do not think it is worth it. Also if your child is not sending letters and researching this is not for them. It takes work. Some of the kids have natural raw talent and some have to work very hard to get on a coaches radar. |
The associate assistant Coach is the main recruiter/scout. That is the coach that my son always had ongoing conversation with at the schools he was in contact with until they switched over to the head coach as they got closer to signing time. |
^ This. It's like having a job - they need to be organized, have a plan, and follow up if they truly want to go to the next level. If they go play any college level soccer - they will be missing classes for their sport. |
Yup. If you're cream of the crop, they'll find you. If not, bust your behind to get in front of them. |
