Dance studio that focuses on technique

Anonymous
My daughter has been dancing for 8 years (competing for 5). Her current studio has become a toxic place that only focuses on their “favorites” and helping them advance. Plus they seem to only care about who’s flexible and can do acrobatic tricks. DD is starting to lose her passion for dance because of this. I would like to find her a studio that focuses more on technique instead of tricks and flexibility. I’m in Montgomery county.

So you go to c-unit? That's what you signed up for. Try CityDance or Bethesda Conservatory of Dance. They are above industry standards and Nationally recocignized.

Can I ask where you are leaving? We are also looking to change studios and I want to see who to avoid!

Avoid c-unit, unity, and elite for starters.

The other question you should be asking OP, is which of the studios you are looking at will be around in 12-18 months? Many of the these places are under dire financial stress and several are going to be bankrupt.

Which studios are you looking at and we can give you a candid evalutation?

No, she’s not at C-Unit.

Can you share the name of the one you’re leaving? Like you, I want to see who to avoid.

C-Unit is solid for technique. I'd try there before Bethesda Conservatory of Dance, which is more relaxed (better for some kids for sure). CityDance the most intense, if you think that could be a good fit for your child. We prefer more of a middle ground.

Look at Metropolitan Ballet and see if it would be a good fit. They are a more serious studio and definitely focused on technique.

C-unit is notorious for injuries indicating that the technical aspects are not age appropriate. The costuming is wildly inappropriate. I cannot recommend this place. Look at the Google reviews. Favoritism is their brand. Toxicity is the culture.

Bethesda Conservatory of Dance is big enough that there is a track for everyone. Want laid back fun classes, they have that...
Want pre-professional training, they have that....

Want to make your HS Poms team? They can get you there?
Want to perform in televised events, they've got you.
Invitation only conventions? You will find BCOD well represented.

Ovations is regarding as having an ethical ownership, but, I am not sure the technical training is adequate.

If you think c-unit has solid technique, then I have a used car I want to sell you.

I’ve talked to her multiple times. She’s very dismissive and condescending.
