2030 Girls Team, ISO Feedback on Coaching and Team Culture

Anonymous
Now that the Fall Season has wrapped up we are searching for a 2030 Team (ideally all 2030s and not mixed) for our DD for the Summer Season. Understood that she would need to tryout, while it is challenging to be objective about your own child, I can say that she is a very competitive lacrosse player and a great teammate.

There is a lot of excellent information on this forum about the different clubs and 2030 Teams. It seems like the following are options for 2030 Teams in Northern VA and Montgomery County:

Bethesda Lacrosse Club (Blue and Orange), Stars (Blue and Light Blue), Pride, MC Elite, Next Level, and Yellow Jackets DMV

Please let me know if I missed any Teams with a non-mixed 2030 Team (I left off MadLax, VA One, and 3D VA Metro because they do not have 2030 teams).

It seems like it might be a bit of a unicorn but, like a lot of parents, we are looking for great coaching, a positive Team environment (usually an extension of great coaching), and competent communication.

Do you have a DD on one of these 2030 Teams (or first-hand knowledge of one or more of the Teams) where you can share your opinion of the Coaching, Team Culture, and Communication?

The feedback on your Team Experience or any advice on these 2030 Teams is greatly appreciated!

Personally, I would attend a game or practice and observe. You’ll learn a lot a lot and get your questions answered.

You’re not going to get an accurate answer here.

Sincerely, a 2030 parent

I think you 2030 parents are going to give the 2028 'rents a run for their money. Of course, there's probably a lot of overlap between the two, parental-wise.

What team and area are you coming from? Are you willing to commute?

Should also point out it may be tough to join a team mid year - unless she's a standout on the field. Assuming she's currently on a club team and looking for a change/better environment and coaching. As someone else pointed out, start reaching out to teams about joining a practice so your DD and yourself can observe how different clubs look and feel.

Good luck...

If you are looking for a team that believes they are far superior to everyone else and consistently disparages their competition, look no further than BLC. The depth and breadth of this attitude is consistent and without parallel.

Seriously there are a lot of good teams in this area with a fun atmosphere and great player development. My daughter enjoys playing for Next Level and has friends who are doing well at lots of other clubs, good luck!

2030 is 6th grade, right? I am not sure it feels appropriate to request to watch a 6th grade practice (high school, sure). I also think things switch around a lot at that age.

My suggestion is do clinics with the clubs in which you are interested and see what your daughter likes and if she feels like she learned skills. If she is at a school with a MS lacrosse team, talk with the coach for recs.

Moco options
BLC has consistently been the most competitive team in the DMV for several years. Stable coaching, very athletic roster.
YJMA DMV is a very capable team. Finally have their feet set after MCE exit and moving forward. High upside, small roster.
Next Level is a quality B option. Patience for girls to learn/grow, great families. Some roster retention issues.

Reach out to the club directors. Ask for a schedule, talk to the parents. You may have to wait until try outs unless the clubs are low on numbers.

Just curious, why do you want to switch seasons for summer? Is your daughter currently not on a team? Usually the club season is paid through the year so the best time to switch would be at summer tryouts to join a team in the fall.

You should talk to teams and parents in person. You’re not going to get what you’re looking for on this board. Everyone has an agenda and you really need to experience the club and team in person. A club may look great on paper, but the team is not a great fit in real life. My DDs coaches would let your daughter practice with the team while you are meeting parents.

Can someone provide a similar rant-less version of this for 2030 NoVa teams?
