Do your toddlers get upset tummy sick with upper respiratory virus?

Anonymous
Toddler (3) started preschool and this is the first time toddler has been in group care setting. I knew they would be sick frequently this year. I've noticed they get very loose stools with each upper respiratory virus. (We're on third maybe fourth one since August.) Pediatrician wasn't concerned when I mentioned it but I'm just not sure if this is normal or are we just super unlucky with timing of viruses? Adults haven't had stomach issues but have caught some of the colds. Just wondering if this is something others have found accompanies colds or not.

I have one kiddo who will be throwing up while everyone else has sniffles. He also went through a car sickness season.

I have a kid who pukes with strep.

Yes. He swallows the mucus and it either comes out as loose stools or vomit.

OP. Ugh ok good to hear my toddler isn't the only one and it's not likely another virus. Just all the mucus.

Very common because they can't blow their noses they just swallow all the mucus

Mine throw up if there is too much drainage, but thankfully that seems to make them feel much better after!

Stomach ache in toddlers could be a sign of strep.

Yes this is common until they are good at blowing their noses. I would practice (when healthy) on blowing the nose. A good way is to hold a lit candle in front of them and, with mouth closed, blow out the candle. Once they can consistently blow their noses the colds will be easier to deal with

Yep, this happens like clockwork with DS. He gets sick and vomits from postnatal drip and swallowing too much phlegm. It is getting a little better as he gets older.
