| I’m starting this thread to discuss the new Madlax national team offering “Supereme National” My initial question is this a real thing? I haven’t heard of a single parent who is signing their kids up for this. It seem like all of the people I know who would sign up - are already doing Mojo or red hots so I don’t think they would double up on national teams. My sense is they are having trouble filling the teams. Thanks for your input. And if we could skip the usual Madlax bashing that would be great. |
I think that people that are the type of National teams that you mentioned, do not want to leave an established product to something that right now is a "could be". Especially with all of the Madlax bashing that is not going away anytime soon. |
One thing I don't understand is Madlax Capital already plays many tournaments, of which majority are against top teams. What's the value of doing these extra national teams? It just seems more than enough. |
New uniforms, New name, New Image? Maybe that is the thought on correcting the Madlax marketing? |
| Sounds like Taco Bell’s new burrito. |
They “why” is no secret. $$$$$ |
Save your money and focus on the development of your child outside of these extra nationals crap. It not worth it and to your point you are already playing enough vs competitive teams at good tournaments. Plus overuse on the child's body. Play other sports and give the year round play a rest. All you would be doing is wasting money and adding to the pockets of CM. |

The traditional MadLax model has been to have a Capital team, which includes its best local players and plays in HoCo (through 8th grade) and a strong slate of fall and summer tournaments, and then a National team on top of that. The National team typically consists of 75% to 95% of the Capital team, supplemented by strong players from around the country. Those players come from MadLax partner programs in Texas and elsewhere, plus they will take a good player from anywhere. The National teams play in a certain number of elite tournaments each year. Obviously they need to push aside some of their Capital players in order to make room, which upsets those families, but Madlax has never cared about ruffling the feathers of players they consider weaker.
Having the National teams used to be a differentiator in favor of Madlax, because a good player could have a place on both a good local team AND a National team. But the model has come under strain in the past few years, especially the last year, because other programs are now beating them at their own game and offering National opportunities in addition to their regular program. MoJo is the Next Level offering, which consists of the best NL players, plus good outsiders that they have pulled in, including players they are stealing from MadLax. True has National and Regional teams, plus there are purely National Teams like Red Hots, Mad Dogs, Team 18, Nationals LC, and many others. They are diluting the talent so much that it is hard to know which, if any, are the "super elite" teams that they set out to be. Meanwhile, MadLax has been losing players at a steady clip from most of its National teams, which as noted above, are at least 75% of its National team rosters. The crumbling of its 2024, 2026, and 2028 teams are well known. Rumors and complaints about daddy ball have been flying for years about 2027 and 2029. Those teams remain intact as best I know, but they could crumble too at any time. The 2027 team has been propped up with out of town players for awhile, and keeping the 2024, 26, and 28 teams going will depend heavily on out of town players as well. In other words, the pools of local and national players have merged into one, and in some classes, they are scrambling to field just one team from the combined pools. So, I understand why Madlax has announced the Supreme team, as a means to keep up with the national trend of National teams. But for their sake I hope they are focusing recruiting efforts on maintaining their regular teams, and my guess is that Supreme will exist only on paper and never be a real team in the flesh. The good news for Madlax is that CM is a good businessman, and lacrosse families are generally insecure about missing opportunities, and generally have a lot of disposable income. So it may look like a mess, but the landscape remains ripe to make $$ and Madlax will be fine. None of this is meant as bashing - just my best and honest observations. |
Well said. I honestly think that Madlax Capital should go after NL and DCE "B" team kids that have potential. This would make players/parents want to join an "A" team. |
| What are the odds that Madlax/Supreme National starts sponsoring national tournaments on the same weekends that The Circuit teams play in order to make sure that Madlax kids can't play for Circuit teams? |
| MadLax capital already did go after NL and DCE B players - who’s on there is who they got which was maybe 2 kids. |
the chances are low, because doing that would push more players out of Madlax altogether. CM is usually pretty smart about picking his battles. |
Correct. I know several kids that played for MOJO (and other teams up in the Circuit) and it was hilarious watching them say "don't tell anyone." |
| OP here. What is the value of these national teams? It seems like if your highschool team, regular travel team and showcases aren’t enough to get you the exposure to college coaches - maybe college lacrosse wasn’t for you. |
Shhhh don’t tell the parents that. Range Rovers don’t grow on trees. $$$$ |
