Broadway show attire

In NYC, what do you wear?

Matinee or evening?

Some people have gotten pretty causal at the matinees but most people will have on work casual or nicer for evenings.

You’ll see a wide range. My teen son will wear nice jeans and a button down and looks completely normal.

I see people more dressed up for Kennedy Center than Broadway but Kennedy Center also trends old people.

Anything goes but it’s so fun to dress up!

Dress up and go out for a nice meal.

Read the thread about “why don’t people dress nicely anymore……”. This is the answer. People will be in everything from dressy to slob. More slobs than dressy in my opinion based on recent visits. Especially the more touristy shows.

Don’t wear anything binding. The seats are tiny.

I also think with Broadway you have people who have been sightseeing or generally out and about all day going straight to the theater, I think that is less common with the Kennedy Center. I typically wear nice jeans and dressy sneakers. For matinees we have let our kids wear shorts and a tee shirt. They are usually going straight from the show to a sleepover with their cousins.

I wear a nice solid colored top, and jeans. I am sitting in squished seats and walking miles before/after so want to be fairly comfortable. The actors can't see anything below our waists anyway.

Also depends on where you are seating - it's more casual all the way up in the cheaper seats and dressier in the prime spots.

Pretty much anything goes.

People dress like slobs at broadway shows. It’s sad.

We just went to a show on a Saturday night. It was very casual for the theater. I wore black pants and a nice top and my DH had dress pants and a button down shirt. We were on the dressier side of things. Lots of jeans and sneakers. I would not dress up much more than that. I agree that the Kennedy Center gets a bit more dressy especially around the holidays.

Sad to who?
I guarentee you the actors don't care.
