Kingsview Village in Germantown for kids?

Does ANYONE live there with small children? We hear mixed impressions of the neighborhood, but love the homes and what we perceive (at least during the daytime) as a well-kept community. We are thinking about putting a bid on a home, but have reservations--one being whenever we drive around we don't see ANY kids playing outside! We also 'hear' warnings of gang activity in Germantown and although not the norm, other violent and drug-related crimes--more so than where we currently reside.

Can anyone offer any first-hand guidance on whether or not this is a neighborhood where we could raise young (early elementary) kids without fearing that we have to wire our home with alarms and stay indoors after the sun sets?
