Providing dinner for out of state family

Anonymous
Hi there. My cousin and her husband are both having surgery 2 weeks apart (emergency situation, not planned). There is a calendar set up for helping with meals, etc. and we want to help. Aside from uber eats and door dash from local restaurants, can anyone suggest a service they have used that is reliable and good? I see that Harry and David has meals but I think of them as more of the fruit basket type of place.

Thank you!

I think Harry and David is actually a nice idea. They might not want big meals every day. Might be nice to have some snacky stuff.

This popped up in my circle and we were all surprised at how easy/cheap and well received it was.
Organizer realized not enough time to get meal delivery coordinated and the people in the group were fairly new acquaintances who wanted to show goodwill but were not close friends.
Giant food shop of individual frozen meals from trader joes.
I know this won't help here as the folks are out of town, but wanted to drop the idea here in case it ever helps anyone else.

You dont mention where they live but get on google and find the local Jewish style deli. They will be ready and unfazed by providing ready meals to a family.

I can't remember why, but we sent my dad Spoonful of Comfort and he said it was the best chicken noodle soup he'd ever had. And we're Jewish, so he's eaten a LOT of it over the decades.

I sent friends a gift from Zabars, and it was great for snacks and morning treats. Other meals seem easier to cover than breakfast.

Honey Baked Ham can do complete meals. My spouses office sent one when MIL passed away, and it was delicious and such a change from the lasagna amd casseroles that had been delivered. Is our go-to now (we are a jewish family - they have lots of choices that are not ham)

I go on door dash and put in the address and send dinner from a nearby restaurant.

^ oops! Hit send too early. Meant yo add that I have also sent Spoonful of Comfort and it was very well received. Another option is Goldbelly.

If you want to send trays of food see if Wegman’s delivers to them. The catering site has lots of options and is super easy to use.

+2 for Spoonful of Comfort. If you know someone else in that area or don’t mind doing a little research, you might find a local meal service or restaurant that delivers meal packages.

For my cousin in another city who had cancer, I found a local burrito shop that would deliver packages with assortments of frozen burritos, which could be reheated individually.

You could also check if the local grocery stores have ready-made dinner options, like Wegman’s does, then do an Instacart delivery.
