Hello! I am a journalism student at George Washington University and I am working on a story for a class assignment about reasons why parents in DC choose to send their children to charter schools, rather than public schools, or private. Additionally, I am also looking to evaluate public opinions about DC charter schools as a whole. If you would be interested in partaking in a quick interview with me about your thoughts on this, or if you know anyone who would, please email me nikkighaemi@gwu.edu. Thanks!

| Hi, before you do further outreach you might want to reword your appeal. All charter schools in DC are public schools. I think what you mean is "...why parents in DC choose to send their children to public charter schools, rather than DCPS, or private." |

Framing is messed up. You may also want to explore school choice in general: people applying to out of boundary DCPS schools as well. |
| Spoiler alert: the biggest reason people choose a public school that is not their default IB DCPS school is for the middle/high school option down the road. It truly boils down to that for 99.9% of the folks I ever speak with about school choice. As for choosing private school, I am guessing the overwhelming majority will say it’s because their kid didn’t luck out in the lottery for a good public middle/high school option or their kid has specific learning or extra curricular needs that aren’t met in the public option. Or they have the means, so why not?! |
+2. Please do more reading about his subject before interviewing people and writing about it. |
| If you are evaluating public opinions, are you doing a survey? Have you confirmed whether you need IRB approval? |
Sounds like it's journalistic, not research |
| I think the framing here is fine. Sorry people are being annoying, journalism student. |
The framing is not correct because Charter schools are public schools, they are not two different things as OP suggest. |
| I would encourage you to think about expanding your demographics if you are looking for a balanced article. DCUM is not representative of DC. |

| I would love to speak with you as a parent and educator who has worked in both setting |
You are incorrect. |
| NP. I looked at all of my free options (DCPS and charter - yes, both are public) when my child was 3. My goal was to choose which ever was the best for my child - which happened to be a charter. |
Please feel free to email me! Thank you
