Only a few guests for Thanksgiving; menu?

Anonymous
DH and I are hosting MIL/FIL and one of DH’s cousins in addition to our family of four. I know leftovers are desirable, but as my kids are young and don’t eat a ton, we always have a problematic amount of leftovers, even after sending some home with guests. I’m thinking about scaling back both volume and amount of dishes.

How does this sound, if you were a guest?

Turkey/gravy
Mashed potatoes
Dressing
Cranberry sauce
Green beans
Salad
Corn pudding (special favorite requested by my kids)
Small yeast rolls

There will be appetizers and dessert as well.

That’s more than enough, right?

Sounds perfect

I’d cut the salad. No one really eats it in our family. You need a separate plate for it too.

I only cook for six, and our menu is similar, only replace corn with sweet potatoes.

I’d also eliminate the salad since you have the green beans.

I’d skip the salad too.
The rest looks good.
I’d add another veg but that’s because my kid doesn’t like green beans..

That is PLENTY of food. Do broccoli or carrots/parsnips for your second veggie. Or else do another salad like fennel and oranges, not just your regular old leafy greens salad.

Menu look good to me. Also I buy some extra gladware to offer guests for leftovers. Makes it easier for people to take things home.

I love salad and corn.

You can buy two turkey breasts instead of a whole turkey if you want less leftovers.

Can you tell me about the corn salad?

I'd want one more veg, personally - roasted brussels or broccoli, something like that.

The dieters will be happy with the salad (though personally I am not willing to use valuable TG plate space on salad)

Who are “the dieters”? OP didn’t say anything of the kind.

She did not say what type of eaters at all. There may well be one of two.

And that would have been mentioned or reflected in the menu. It’s weird that you assume everyone diets, including on a holiday. Even my cousin who had stomach band surgery eats traditional Thanksgiving food, not just salad.
