Just curious, if you have hypothyroidism what was your test reading? I'm at 3.9 which my doctor says is normal but per the new endocrinologist scales I am hypo. I have an endo appt this week to explore my test results. What are you on the scale and did you have to advocate for yourself?
I was at 3.3 and my GP started me on Synthroid. It made a huge difference. I was really tired and felt like I had the flu all the time prior to starting Synthroid. Go to an endo and if they don't treat you get a 2nd opinion. There's no reason to live with thyroid problems when it's treatable.
Thanks, PP. Were you cold, tired, having odd leg sensations? My hair isn't dry or brittle but I am watching what I eat/exercising and packing on ridiculous weight. I am also breast feeding and not losing. My thyroid at 3.9 on the new scale is very high. I feel like my doctor isn't looking at the big picture, more just telling me my one number is normal when compared to an outdated chart.
PP here. Your number is NOT normal. Why does your doctor say it's normal. Above 3 is not normal, although up until a few years ago anything up to 5 was considered normal. I did not feel cold, I felt like I had the flu and was very tired, was going to bed as soon as kids fell asleep, sleeping 12 hours a night and was still exhausted.
My doctor uses the old scale and to them up to 5 is still normal. She wouldn't refer me to an endo so I just made an appt for myself. I just *know* something isn't right with my body. |
As a thyroid patient (originally had Graves Disease, radiated thyroid and am now Hypo) follow your body. I know when my labs are off just by what by body is telling me and I have been right for three years. Maybe you should get a second opinion - I did when I wasn't happy with my previous Endo. I highly recommend Peter Ross in Fairfax.
