Weighted GPA

Our kid is in an AP (not IB) school. I understand that AP classes are graded on a 5 point scale, not 4. How are "honors" classes graded? Does it make a difference if the school does not offer a "regular" version of a certain class? TIA.

Honors classes are weighted the same as AP.

Nope, no difference

Some schools will not give the bump in the AP unless the exam has been taken. Not sure that's an MCPS policy however, which prefers to just bump up grades at every opportunity.

Some schools in MCPS? Which ones?

Never heard of this. MCPS does state that the exam is required if you take the class but this does not seem to be enforced.

Some colleges do their own versions of gpa, so maybe honors is weighted differently than AP

Competitive colleges completely reweigh the GPA to balance between school systems. They're not fooled by grade inflation.
