Extended App Deadlines - Why would they do this AFTER the deadline passed?

| My kid applied to a school yesterday, before the midnight deadline. This morning around 10:00 a.m., kid receives an email that the deadline has been extended another 6 days. I can understand extending the deadline before the deadline passed but why are they doing it afterwards? |

| 1) They encountered some kind of technical issue that they couldn't resolve in time - so to be fair gives everyone more time. 2) didn't get the yield they were expecting for EA and decided to move the deadline. |

| I would agree with some sort of technical issue. It could even be localized, but they don’t want to shut anyone out. |

My DD only received from Fordham.
Are you sure about Case Western? The common app still shows 11/1 as deadline. |

Here's the email: Dear (my kid), My admission team and I received quite a few applications, but I'm still very interested in reviewing your Common App or Coalition with Scoir if you have not yet applied. In case you need it, I'm giving you a grace day to submit your application to Case Western Reserve. You can still apply non-binding Early Action if you're considering several schools or choose our Early Decision I option if you know that Case Western Reserve is the right college experience for you.
