Differences Amongst NW DC Neighborhoods

Anonymous
We are considering a few different DC neighborhoods but I am curious from folks who live there what the vibe is. I'd really love my kids (5 and 7) to make friends with other kids on the street and have a community feeling (think street parties for big holidays, neighbors helping each other, kids trick or treating, etc.)

-Palisades
-AU Park
-Kent
-Wesley Heights
-Berkley

Thank you!

You want either of the first two. The last three are full of the ultra-wealthy who isolate themselves in mansions.

You must have an unlimited budget.

You want the house of Wesley Heights, but the fun of Glover Park. Go with AU.

+1 Only 14% of the 20007 zip code, which is everything you list except Palisades and AU Park, is families with children under 18. In the 20016 zip code the population is 26% families with children under 18.

Zip code may not be the right metric. 20007 includes Georgetown - how much of it is university students and retirees that keep to themselves in Georgetown, a neighborhood OP isn’t interested in?

NP: So...and? OP wasn't asking which one was more affordable or least affordable. Stay on topic.

OP here. This is really interesting data. Thanks.

OP here. Not unlimited. We are looking to spend 3-3.5M, which based on comps seems doable (we aren't looking to buy some insane mansion).

Wesley Heights if you can find a suitable place.

We lived there and there are plenty of kids. Right next to Mann (Even if you use private, it's a great playground). Sutton Place and Embassy Park have tons of young families that will walk around WH.

All in, i don't think there is a better neighborhood in NW than WH. It's the best of all worlds.

I don’t understand why anyone chooses to live in any of these neighborhoods in Upper Caucasia, to be honest. You’re basically paying top dollar to live in what are essentially suburbs - except you’re stuck with city services and city schools and can’t walk anywhere. Why bother? It’s the worst of both worlds.

Please let us know where you live. Must be an edgy neighborhood based on the not-at-all-tired "Upper Caucasia" mention.

I live near Logan Circle. In the actual city. If I wanted to live in the suburbs I’d actually live in the suburbs.

Gimme a break. I live EOTP but if you think people who live in Kent and Wesley Heights are "stuck with city schools" you're thick in the head. Nobody with a $3.5M budget is worrying about neighborhood schools.
