I work near the White House (can see it out my window).
Are there any places where I can sit down and get a shoe shine? When I started working in downtown DC over a decade ago, there was a shoe shine guy in many buildings. We had one in International Square and I'd get a shine every two weeks. The building kicked him out of the atrium to bring in an expensive shoe repair shop. Eventually COVID finally ended the ones still hanging on. Any shoe shine guys near the WH? |
Moses is still in Columbia Square (the one above Metro Center at 13th and F) |
Union Station |
Definitely still at Union station. Was there one in the building with the international press club? |
OP here: I'm west of the WH so I ended up going to Cobbler's Bench near my office (there's a few of these downtown). I had to take off my shoes and sit on a bench while he used the large machines to clean, polish, and shine/buff my shoes. I also had him add some heel caps to reduce uneven wear on my dress shoe heels.
All in was $22 and it was less than five minutes. Not as relaxing as a real shoe shine, but this was super fast and easy. |
OP, I’m so glad you posted this. I’ve hoped to find a shoe shine stand in various airports over the last few months and none have been open. I also work near the WH and will go check out the Cobbler’s Bench. Thank you! |
