How are you progressing? Sometimes i wonder if I am experiencing early onset dementia. I’m sure stress doesn’t help. |
how old are you and what signs are you seeing?
|
My husband is 50 and having trouble with his memory it could be the statins hes on. |
Start keeping track when you notice you've missed something. Then talk to your doctor.
If you are stressed, work on that area if you can. Reducing stress can help brain function. |
I'm now 63. For the last five years or so I've had super short-term memory lapses. These are things like the stereotypical walk into a room and forget what you came in to get. Also, sometimes I'm about to Google something or similar and my mind blanks on what it was.
These are kind of scary, but from what I've read typical, sadly. The good news for me, for now, is that I do remember nearly everything within a few minutes, especially if something triggers it or it just pops back to front of mind for some reason. |
I hope for your sake that this is just stress related. I've had these exact same experiences ever since I had twins 10 years ago at 37. I still blank out like that. |
I don't remember. |
Do statins affect memory? |
I’ve always been forgetful. I hope it doesn’t mean dementia, but who knows. Examples: word/name retrieval, losing keys, dense information is in one ear and out the other. I’m also on a lifelong medication that works really well, but it has a couple side affects including possible memory impairment. Most of the time my memory is fine so it doesn’t impact me in a real way (yet). |
This happens to me also (mid 50s), and it is scary. Sometimes I fear I'll forget where I'm going or how to get there or how to get home. The other day the dog had gone into the closet and when I couldn't find her I panicked and thought "where did I leave the dog??" |
I’m in my early 50s with two teenagers. I was concerned and saw a doctor. He said my memory is fine. It’s just the stage of life I’m at. Working women with kids have a ton of things to remember! The cognitive load is immense. |
Good to know. I forget words I'm going to type on a computer about every 2 weeks. But remember them in about 1 minute. I hope that is pretty normal for age 50. I feel like I remember much more than other people around me but that is more that they are not thinking about as much. |
It could be plaque caused by the same condition he’s taking the statins for. Did he have an MRI done? |
I actually went off the statin I've been on for a few years (I'm 56) to see if it affected my memory. Six months off and no difference. So I started back on them. |
I have to word search fairly often: like I cannot think of the word I want. I am 66. Stress does make things worse. |
